The Equestrian Coalition and City of San Juan Capistrano are highly motivated after a lawsuit was filed by the watchdog group, Coast Keepers that led to a $3 million dollar settlement that alleged serious discharge from uncontained equine waste into federal waters. The cultural, historical and economic importance of the equestrian community in the area warrants immediate aid in properly processing stable waste.
Aveterra was contacted and is in negotiation with the stakeholders to provide a compost facility that will specialize in the large volume of equine stable waste. The city-owned landfill is a potential site and supports the model of using existing, available land for longterm, low fee use agreement.
