We are working with a private stable in Encinitas, California. With an average of 20 horses, they made the decision to compost their stable waste on-site. This will reduce operating costs by eliminating haul off and disposal fees while creating organic-certified soil products for their landscaping and pasture maintenance. This project will also greatly reduce potential exposure to regulatory fines that can come from poor manure management.

The stable chose a double bay, auger-based compost system, measuring just 20’X35”. The design includes a concrete pad and walls as well as a roof to cover the process. Leachate is contained within the system and all rainwater runoff goes into a biofiltration system. The process produces a stable, pathogen and weed seed free soil product that is advantageous for plant growth and moisture retention.

Working with the City of Encinitas and County of San Diego has been positive. They are excited to see an environmentally positive manure disposal option.
